The authorities of Rajshahi University (RU) are going to recognise top 100 researchers of the university as part of celebrating Mujib Borsho and golden jubilee of the nation's independence.

A reception programme will be held to honour the researchers by December this year, reports our RU correspondent quoting Dr Ajijur Rahman, administrator of RU public relations office.

The university authority aims to raise the standard of education and research, as well as to motivate teachers to do more groundwork through this plan.

"We will work to enhance necessary facilities for them afterwards," said Dr Ajijur Rahman.

In early September this year, university Vice-Chancellor Prof Golam Shabbir Sattar formed a committee to select the 100 top researchers.

Pro VC prof Sultan-Ul-Islam was made the head and Dr Ajijur Rahman the member secretary of the committee. The deans of different faculties and directors of institutes were made members in the committee.

In a meeting on November 2, the committee set up nine standards to identify the top 100 researchers among all teachers in the university.

Those nine standards include number of research supervisions, number of publications in international journals, number of conference proceedings, publication of academic books, grants sanctioned from funds other than the university and University Grants Commission, number of uses of published journals as quotations, patents, number of awards received and overall impact of research.

According to sources, 70 of the 100 researchers will be selected from science based departments and rest of them from arts, social sciences and business based departments.

"We have been trying to complete the process within this month. And by next month, we will hold the programme to honour them," Dr Ajijur Rahman said.
