Muktijuddho Moncho leader locks 5 rooms of RU hall with students inside
A leader of Muktijuddho Moncho's Rajshahi University unit locked five rooms -- with students inside -- of Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Hall at the university today.
Rooms 219 to 223 were locked from outside around 12:15pm, reports our RU correspondent quoting hall's residents.
The hall authorities later broke the locks after receiving information.
Sohanur Rahman, a resident of room 222, said, "I was studying when there was a sound at the door. I went to the door and saw it was not opening -- it was locked from outside."
After the incident, Saeed Bin Ekram, the organising secretary of Muktijuddho Moncho RU unit, admitted the incident and said, "Despite the fact that many of our students have hall residences, they have not been given hall seats for a long time."
"If we had been allotted rooms, such an incident would not have happened," he said when asked if he had the authority to lock the rooms.
Meanwhile, the hall's residential students began protesting the incident by locking the hall's main gate.
They claimed that after viewing the hall's CCTV footage, all those responsible for the incident should face justice through a thorough investigation. At the same time, the students' overall safety in the hall must be ensured.
Hall Provost Sujan Sen said, "The Muktijuddho Moncho leader is a non-resident student at the hall. As a result, doing such work in the context of room allocation is out of the question."
"In addition, we met with the university administration and informed all relevant authorities. They will look into the situation," he said.
University Proctor Liaquat Ali said, "We visited the scene immediately after the incident. All those involved in the incident will face punishment after a thorough investigation."
