Covid-19: 7.86 million Bangladesh students at risk of learning loss

Number of students at risk of learning loss has increased as schools were closed for almost 18 months due to Covid-19 pandemic.

A Power and Participation Research Centre (PPRC) and BRAC Institute of Governance and Development (BIGD) joint survey unveiled today shows that 7.86 million students are at risk of learning loss.

Of them, 3.96 million are primary school students, and 3.90 million are secondary school students, said PPRC Executive Chairman, Hossain Zillur Rahman.

The study was conducted in August.

The PPRC executive chairman also referred to a March joint study conducted by the PPRC and BIGD.

According to the March survey, minimum 5.92 million students were at risk of learning loss as a result of school closures for about a year.

Of them, 3.42 million are primary students, and 2.50 million are secondary students.

At a virtual unveiling ceremony, Zillur Rahman and BIGD Executive Director, Imran Matin, presented the study results.
