Education Minister Dipu Moni has said the Covid-19 situation will decide the fate of next year’s SSC and HSC exams.

Education Minister Dipu Moni has said the Covid-19 situation will decide the fate of next year's SSC and HSC exams.

She made the remark in reply to a query from journalists during the unveiling ceremony of SSC results at the capital's Bangabandhu International Conference Hall yesterday.

"If possible, we will take the exams of all the subjects next year. If not, then we will have to go for exams on a select few subjects like this year. But we hope for the first option," she said.

The ministry will observe the situation till March. If the situation remains normal, they will take SSC exam in mid-2022, followed by HSC exam with a shorter syllabus, said the minister.

"Regular classes are ongoing with this target in mind. After February, we will decide the subjects for the exams, if needed," she added.

This year, the exams took place between November 14 and 23 -- nine months after the scheduled time due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Examinees appeared for tests on three optional subjects with a shortened syllabus and fewer marks. Compulsory subjects like Bangla, English and mathematics were dropped.
