First year college classes to begin from Wednesday

Colleges across the country are slated to start classes for freshly-admitted 11th grade students from March 2. This comes after eight months of the scheduled time, as the classes had to be delayed due to Covid-19.

Colleges across the country are slated to start classes for freshly-admitted 11th grade students from March 2. This comes after eight months of the scheduled time, as the classes had to be delayed due to Covid-19.

Usually, the new academic year for HSC and equivalent courses begin on July 1.

"Colleges will start holding the classes from March 2. The classes will be held in person," Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) Director General Prof Nehal Ahmed said.

Nehal said students who have had two doses of Covid-19 vaccine will be allowed to join classes.  

He said routines for the new academic year is yet to be fixed, but they will try to hold at least four classes per day.

Dhaka education board college inspector Prof Abu Taleb Md Moazzem Hossain said 13 lakh students have enroled to class 11 at colleges.

He said the enrolment process of candidates who did not get their desired colleges are still on. The application process ended yesterday.

Online enrolment to HSC and equivalent courses for the session started from January 8. Each student was allowed to apply for five to 10 colleges with a single form.
