Govt mulls single shift for public primary schools from Jan 2023
The government is planning to implement a single shift in all public primary schools across the country, said Aminul Islam Khan, outgoing senior secretary to the primary and mass education ministry today (October 30, 2022).
While talking to reporters on his last working day, he also said the government will try to implement the decision of having a single shift at government primary schools from January 2023.
Zakir Hossen, state minister of the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education was also present at the event at the secretariat.
Aminul said they are considering this plan keeping in mind the number of students, classrooms and teachers.
"About 90 percent of the work has been completed so far," he said.
The secretary said, now many primary schools have one, two or three classrooms. It is not possible to run six classes in two rooms in any way. Buildings also cannot be built overnight, said the secretary.
Considering all this, it has been planned to bring all the schools of the country in one shift, said Aminul.
"No school will be closed down; no teacher will lose their job. Only the work will need to be shared," the secretary added.
