SUST Students Counselling Director Prof Zahir relieved from post

Professor Zahir Uddin Ahmed, director of Students Counselling and Guidance of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST), has been relieved from his position.

A circular, signed by SUST Registrar Mohd Ishfaqul Hussain, was issued in this regard today, stating that Prof Zahir was relieved from his post on the ground of illness, reports our Sylhet correspondent.

Professor Amina Pervin of the Social Work Department was appointed as the new director of students counselling and guidance, according to the circular.

Professor Amina is the first woman professor to be assigned to this position.

The anti-VC movement that began after police action on students on January 16 also demanded termination of Prof Zahir from the post.

Zahir was appointed as proctor of the university on April 17, 2017. But later on April 16, 2020, he was released from his duty over criticism.

Later on March 2 last year, he was appointed as the director of students counselling and guidance.
