Teachers are not allowed to tutor school or college students of their own classrooms at coaching centres, Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni said today.

"This is not allowed legally," she said while talking to journalists after inaugurating the BCB Councilor Cup T-20 Cricket Tournament at Chandpur Stadium in Chandpur this morning, reports our local correspondent.

"Sometimes students need coaching to prepare for different types of exams both in the country and abroad. In most of our educational institutions, the number of students in the classroom is very high and it is not possible for each and every teacher to focus on individual students. Some students may fall back a bit. Many have working parents so there is nobody to help them at home. In such cases, coaching may be needed," she said.

But it is completely unethical if a teacher forces a student to take private classes at home or coaching centre, or otherwise scores the student poorly, the minister said.

"It is prohibited by the law," the minister added.
