Brahmanbaria’s Farzana gets wheelchair after Daily Star report

After a story about Farzana – an eight-year-old born without one leg – was published in The Daily Star, Brahmanbaria district administration announced today that she will be given a wheelchair. Her family will receive Tk 25,000 as well.
Farzana is a student of class two at Gazirkandi Government Primary School in Krishnanagar union of Brahmanbaria's Nabinagar upazila. Following the report on her, Brahmanbaria Deputy Commissioner Md Shahgir Alam contacted The Daily Star to gather information on Farzana and announced that she would be given a wheelchair and cash, reports our local correspondent.
Shahgir Alam said, the wheelchair has been arranged by the District Disabled Persons' Foundation.
Farzana's father, Basir Mia of Gazirkandi village, died five years ago. After her father's death, her mother Bina Begum has been earning a living by fishing and working at other people's houses. Farzana is the third among four siblings.
