Fighting the pandemic with STEM-based solutions
With modern academicians advocating for pragmatic educational systems, science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education’s interdependent approach to learning is becoming accessible in every corner of the world, including Bangladesh. Prioritising on creating local solutions for local problems, Wizkit, an organisation that embraces STEM-based training, research, and product innovation, worked on an array of projects on technical support for individuals with special needs, healthcare, renewable energy and menstrual hygiene. It was founded by Mushfiqur Rahman Saad, 24, and Bushra E Anjum, 25, in 2017.

Narrating stories of resilient women through puppets and illustrations
Celebrating the journey of resilient Bengali women to inspire young minds both at home and abroad, The Asia Foundation, in collaboration with HerStory Foundation, will launch their e-book series on the online platform Let’s Read tomorrow at 6 pm, featuring 12 beautifully illustrated short stories on photojournalist Sayeda Khanam, female summiteer Nishat Mazumdar, advocate Kalpana Chakma and scientist Dr Firdausi Qadri, among others.

Team Digital Innovation wins Silver Medal Award in IBCOL 2020

Team Digital Innovation from Dhaka University, won the Silver Medal Award for their project, Decentralized Identity and Aid Distribution: Platform for Rohingya Refugees. Working towards a better society
We the Dreamers began their journey as a charitable organisation in 2005, with the aim of providing disadvantaged communities with free medical camps. They expanded their activities as a non-political and multi-professional volunteer organisation from 2015. They facilitate educational services for Rohingya children, who cannot afford to go to schools. They also provide necessary supplies in flood afflicted regions.

Youth mobilisation during the COVID-19 pandemic
In April 2020, a group of young Bangladeshi expats got on a phone call and expressed their concerns regarding the possible impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic in Bangladesh. Public Health students Tahmid Hasib Khan and Aaraf Ahmed jotted down areas in which expatriate youths could make a credible difference in addressing the crisis at home. Their friends provided their input. As a result, the journey of BacharLorai (www.bacharlorai.com) began. Along with Khan and Ahmed, Ontario Public Servant Anil Wasif, Engineer-in-Training Aminur Rahman Khan, KPMG Risk Analyst Farhim Zaman and Data Science student Talha Khan also contributed to the project.
