To commemorate the 70th anniversary of its victory day (May 9), The Russian Embassy in Dhaka is organising a festival of “Best Russian Movies”.

The Daily Star's 24th anniversary glittered at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre on Friday night, as stars of various fields of arts and generations graced the event.

Bengal Cinema Development Forum (BCDF) began its journey in 2013 to promote young filmmakers with the potential to usher in a new era in Bangladesh's cinema. As a step in that direction, BCDF invited scripts from filmmakers, and after rigorous selection has zeroed in on five scripts which will receive funding. The winners were announced at a press meet at Bengal Shilpalaya in the capital on March 1.

Uccharan Academy, a leading cultural organisation of Bogra, arranged a cultural programme on International Mother Language Day and Shaheed Dibosh at its office in Wood-burn Municipality Park in Bogra town.

Marking the birth centenary of Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin, cultural organisation Chhayanaut arranged a celebration programme, featuring, discussion and musical offerings at its main auditorium on February 28. Dr. Sarwar Ali, vice-president of Chhayanaut, delivered the welcome address while Dr. Sanjida Khatun, president of the organisation gave a speech.

Mukunda Das (February 22, 1878 – May 18, 1934) was a Bengali poet, ballad singer, composer, playwright and patriot, who contributed to the spread of the Swadeshi movement in rural Bengal. He was born as Yajneshwar De to Gurudayal De and Shyamasundari Devi.

The Embassy of Bangladesh in Kathmandu observed Shaheed Dibash and International Mother Language Day on February 21 with solemnity and pageantry. The premiere of “Bish-kata”, a documentary by Farzana Boby, was held at Chhayanaut auditorium in the capital on February 22. The documentary sheds lights on the bestial tortures that scores of women of our country went through during the Liberation War.

The Amar Ekushey Book Fair bustled with an extra bit of buzz on Ekushey (21st) February, as people of all walks of life thronged the fair. Not all of them were there to buy books, though. Be it shopping for jewelry and toys, posing for portrait sketches or kids enjoying carnival rides, the festivities took a bigger dimension.
