Kanakchapa is well known as one of the most popular playback singers of the country. But most are unacquainted with her other facet as a painter. Kanakchapa was introduced to the world of painting while she was in school by her father Azizul Haq Morshed, who was a student of Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin.

Now the singer will show her artistic talent through her first solo painting exhibition, “Dwidhar Dolachal”. The exhibit will begin today at Gallery 4 of the National Art Plaza of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.

Professor Abdullah Abu Sayeed will attend the inauguration ceremony this evening as chief guest, while noted artist Abdus Shakur Shah, lyricist Rafik-Uz-Zaman, and artist Kanakchapa Chakma will be the special guests.

The exhibition has been dedicated to the recently deceased artist and film director Khaled Mahmud Mithu.

About her first exhibition, Kanakchapa said, “During his lifetime, my father saw my popularity as a singer, but he was not fortunate enough to see his daughter emerging as a painter. My father inspired me to paint. After his death, my mother gave his colour box to me. She too inspired me as a painter.”

The exhibition will feature over 100 paintings by the prolific
Kannakchapa.

The exhibition will run till April 4.
