J-Law, Pratt in "Passengers" teaser
Sony Pictures has unveiled the a teaser for the trailer for the original sci-fi drama "Passengers". Scripted by Jon Spaihts ("Prometheus") and directed by Morten Tyldum ("The Imitation Game"), the film stars Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt and takes place on a luxury spaceship bound for a human colony that's 120 years away. Given the length of the journey, the 5,000 passengers are put into hypersleep, but when two of the passengers are mysteriously awakened 90 years too early, they strike up a relationship and quickly become the ship's only hope of recovering from a serious malfunction.
There isn't much to see in the trailer tease, but the ship design looks pretty spectacular, and there is some chemistry between Pratt and Lawrence. Spaihts' script has been praised throughout Hollywood for years, with a previous iteration of the film set to star Keanu Reeves, but after scoring a Best Director Oscar nomination, this is the film that "The Imitation Game" helmer Morten Tyldum decided he wanted to direct. Thus, the large-scale sci-fi romance finally came to fruition.
The film opens in theatres on December 21 and also stars Michael Sheen, Laurence Fishburne, and Aurora Perrineau.
