Noted actor, director and playwright Mamunur Rashid celebrates his birthday today.

The traditional role of an art curator is to assemble, catalogue and manage artistic and cultural collections. However, when put in practice, curation may take various forms. Artist, Critic and Curator Mustafa Zaman has a heart-to-heart conversation with The Daily Star, revealing his current concepts of curation. His current work, In (and out of) the stones of our minds, is currently on display at Dwip Gallery.

Re-emphasising the fact that art is relational – both at the level of ideation and material organisation, Dwip Gallery has unveiled its latest exhibition titled, In/out of the stones of our mind.

This year, the Dhaka Art Summit collaborated with around 30 artist collectives from home and abroad. One of them was Ruangrupa, a group of artists and creators from Jakarta, showcasing numerous interesting concepts.

At the ceremony, six storytellers gathered around the library to share stories. They also arranged a scavenger hunt for the audience, who competed with one another to win a gift bag from Goethe Institut and HerStory Foundnation.

Eminent photographer Manzoor Alam Beg fondly addressed pioneer photographer Golam Kashem as ‘Daddy’, for his impeccable contribution to the history of photography in Bangladesh. Although taken aback initially, Golam Kashem embraced the name and became popularly known as ‘Daddy’, ever since.

A panel discussion, featuring Mohaiemen with Sociologist Seuty Sabur, Anthropologist Manosh Chowdhury and Chief Curator of Bengal Foundation Tanzim Wahab will also be held during the inaugural ceremony of the exhibition.

Marking the 101st birth anniversary of the eminent writer, scholar and freedom fighter Abu Rushd (1919-2010), his family honoured four noted personalities of the country. They also provided research grants to emerging scholars and writers at WVA auditorium, recently.

Artist Dilara Begum Jolly is known for her works which touch upon themes of gender, trauma and the feminine figure. The festivity of the International Children’s Film Festival Bangladesh 2020 continued as the winners were announced in the closing ceremony at the National Public Library, recently.
