The telecom regulator sentences seven shop owners to different terms in jail for their alleged involvement in illegal imports of mobile phones.

The telecom regulator today sentenced seven shop owners to different terms in jail for their alleged involvement in illegal imports of mobile phones.

A team of Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) also sealed two shops and fined Tk 19 lakh to different shops conducting raid at Eastern Plaza and Motalib Plaza in the capital, a press release said today.

The BTRC also seized 700 mobile phones which were imported illegally, the release added.

The shop owners failed to provide import-related documents of Xiaomi, iPhone, HTC, Samsung, Sony and Asus brands, according to the release.
