Newly appointed customs tribunal president Belal Hossain made OSD
The government has made Mohammad Belal Hossain Chowdhury, the newly appointed president of the Customs, Excise and VAT Appellate Tribunal, an Officer on Special Duty (OSD), which generally means an officer is temporarily without a regular assigned duty.
The order took effect immediately, according to a notification by the Internal Resources Division of the Finance Ministry today.
The development comes a day after the National Board of Revenue (NBR) transferred Chowdhury from the position of member of VAT Implementation.
On Tuesday, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed a case against him for allegedly amassing and concealing around Tk 5 crore in illegal wealth.
The case statement mentioned that investigators found evidence of land, flats, plots and company shares in his name in Dhaka, Chattogram, Cox's Bazar and Noakhali.
