IUT students claim dance and painting championships at Ucchashe Spondon 2025

The vibrant spirit of cultural expression took centre stage at "Ucchashe Spondon 2025", an inter-university cultural competition organised by the AUST Cultural Club between February 8 and 9 at the Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST) campus. The event brought together talented students from various universities, creating a platform for artistic exchange, creative performances, and cultural appreciation.
Participants engaged in a variety of segments, including painting, dancing, singing, poetry, drama, and more. Among the many institutions that took part, Islamic University of Technology (IUT) made a strong impression by competing in four categories – painting, dancing, singing, and poetry. IUT students emerged victorious in the painting and dancing segments, securing championship titles in both.
In the painting segment, Sumaiya Sinthia from IUT won the championship. Reflecting on her inspiration, she shared, "With cultural fusion as the theme, I had to be selective in my artistic choices to ensure depth and impact. I first chose to depict the Palestine war, using art as a medium to spread awareness about the humanitarian crisis. My second piece featured rickshaw painting – an iconic Bangladeshi folk art recognised as an 'intangible cultural heritage' by UNESCO. Through these artworks, I aimed to highlight both global struggles and the beauty of my own cultural roots."
IUT also dominated the dance segment, where the talented team of Silma Suva, Tazrian Noor Annesha, Lamia Bint Mokbul Rhydita, Nasita Nasir and Tasnuva Mahjabin delivered an electrifying performance that captivated the audience and secured them the championship title. Expressing her joy, Silma Suva shared, "We are truly honoured to be the winners of the Ucchashe Spandan 2025 dance segment hosted by AUST Cultural Club. This achievement is a testament to our passion, dedication, and love for dance. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the organisers, judges, our supporters, and our club, Nirban, who believed in us."
Nirban - IUT Art & Cultural Society played a key role in ensuring IUT's participation in this competition. As a cultural hub at IUT, Nirban actively works to enrich cultural practices among IUTians by organising various artistic and literary events.
