6 fake mineral water plants busted in Dhaka, 6 jailed

A mobile court today busted six fake mineral water plants in Bosila area of Dhaka’s Mohammadpur and sentenced six staffers to different terms of jail.

A joint team of Rapid Action Battalion and Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institute (BSTI) launched a drive at the factories in Bosila Beribadh area this morning, said Executive Magistrate Sarwoer Alam, who led the operation.

During the drive, six staffs of the plants were jailed from three months to one year, he said, adding that four of the plants were sealed while two others were fined Tk two lakh each for supplying water in various areas of the capital without having any license.

The team also seized 2000 jars of water and destroyed those later, he added.
