6 muggers held in Rupnagar, Savar

Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) claims to have detained six members of a muggers’ gang from Dhaka’s Rupnagar and Savar, on the outskirts of the capital.

Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) today claimed to have detained six members of a muggers’ gang from Dhaka’s Rupnagar and Savar, on the outskirts of the capital.

The detainees are: Md Anisur Rahman, 30, of Kushtia; Md Ariful Islam, 38, of Savar; Md Khaledul Islam Bappy, 35, of Faridpur; Abdur Rahman, 42, of Jhenidah; Janu Mia, 50, of Comilla; and Md Shahjahan Mia, 50, of Savar.

On information, a team of Rab-1 conducted a drive in Rupnagar residential area yesterday and detained Anisur, Ariful and Bappy, Mufti Mahmud Khan, director of Rab's legal and media wing, said at a press briefing at the Rab’s media centre today.

Two fake walkie-talkies, two fake police identity cards, two pairs of boots, one sharp knife, six mobile phones and 1,500 yaba tablets were seized from their possession, he said.

Based on information provided by the three detainees, the Rab team conducted a raid in Himandipur area of Savar this afternoon and detained three other members of the gang, Rab official Mufti said. 

A foreign pistol, four bullets, a private car and two mobile phones were also seized from their possession, he added.
