Narsingdi ‘militant den': 5 surrender

Five persons surrender to law enforcers, a day after local police and Rab cordoned off a house in Sadar upazila of Narsingdi suspecting it a “militant den”.

Five persons surrendered to law enforcers this morning, a day after local police and Rab cordoned off a house in Sadar upazila of Narsingdi suspecting it a “militant den”.
“Following our call for surrender, five men came out of the building around 9:30am and surrendered,” Alep Uddin, an assistant director of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab)-11, told The Daily Star in the morning.

Earlier in the day, Rab members asked the family members of the five to identify them, UNB reports quoting Mufti Mahmud Khan, director (media wing) of Rab headquarters. A Rab team has already started for Dhaka with the detainees, he said.
"A bomb disposal unit will now enter the house to find whether there is any firearm or explosive there," he added.
Since the raid started yesterday, the people were holed up in a two-storey under-construction building at Gabtoli village (Uttar).
Earlier, law enforcers postponed the operation last night due to inadequate light.
Rab resumed their operation giving highest priority to a “peaceful surrender” of the suspects, the official added.
