Poet Rafiq Azad at ICU

Renowned poet Rafiq Azad is admitted to the ICU of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) in Dhaka following a stroke.

Renowned poet Rafiq Azad was admitted to the ICU of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) in Dhaka this afternoon following a stroke.

One of the most prolific and dynamic poets of the country, Rafiq Azad suffered a stroke around 10:15pm yesterday and was rushed to the Birdem Hospital in the capital.

He was then taken to a private clinic and later admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of BSMMU around 3:00pm, Deluar Habib Khan, a nephew of the poet, told The Daily Star.

Rafiq Azad has been diagnosed with a brain haemorrhage after a CT scan. Nothing further could be said about his condition until 72 hours pass, Deluar also said, quoting attending doctors.

He is currently unable to talk or recognise anyone, he added.
