Protesters block Shahbagh demanding justice for Tonu

Protesters blocked capital Dhaka’s key intersection Shahbagh this afternoon demanding justice for the murder of Comilla’s Victoria college student Tonu.

Gonojagoron Mancha leaders and activists blocked the streets since around 5:00pm today to press for exemplary punishment of the culprits involved.

Mancha leaders including its spokesperson for one faction Imran H Sarker and Lucky Akter announced to continue the blockade for “indefinite period”.

The body of Sohagi Jahan Tonu, an undergraduate student of history, was recovered from Moinamoti area on Sunday night. Her father has filed a murder case with Comilla Kotwali Model Police Station.

Investigators and rights activists believe that Tonu was raped before murder.
