Music icon Kanak Chapa turns 56 today

Renowned Bangladeshi singer Rumana Morshed Kanak Chapa, whose melodious voice has touched millions, celebrates her birthday today. Born in 1969 in Dhaka’s Shantibagh, Kanak Chapa has enriched Bangla music with a versatile career spanning over 35 years.

Although her ancestral home is in Kazipur, Sirajganj, Kanak Chapa was raised in Dhaka. She is the daughter of Azizul Haque Morshed and the third among five siblings. A student of legendary vocalist Bashir Ahmed, she received extensive training in classical, Nazrul Sangeet, and other genres.

Over the decades, Kanak Chapa has recorded more than 3,000 film songs and released 35 solo albums, securing her place as one of the most celebrated voices in the country. Her hit songs include "Onek Shadhonar Pore Ami Pelam Tomar Mon", "Tomake Chai Shudhu Tomake Chai", "Bhalo Achi Bhalo Theko", "Tomay Dekhle Mone Hoy", and "Anonto Prem Tumi Dao Amake".

Beyond music, she is also an accomplished writer, having published three books: "Sthobir Jajabor" (2010), "Mukhomukhi Joddha" (2012), and "Megher Danay Chore" (2016). Kanak Chapa has received three National Film Awards, along with numerous other accolades including the BACHSAS Award and Producer's Association Award.

In addition to her musical career, the singer has also been involved in politics. She contested as a BNP candidate for the Sirajganj-1 constituency during the 11th National Parliamentary Elections.

Today, as she marks her 56th birthday, fans and well-wishers celebrate not only her artistry but also her enduring contribution to Bangladeshi culture and music.
