“Last Suffer” weaves together Anton Chekhov’s ageing character Vasili Svetlovidoff and moments from the life of French playwright and performer Molière.

Chittagong-based theatre troupe Meghagomprio has arrived in Dhaka with its latest production, "Last Suffer", now showing at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy's National Theatre Hall.

The play will be staged over three days, September 24–26, with evening performances on the first two days at 7:30pm, and two shows on the final day at 5:30pm and 7:30pm. Tickets are available online, priced at Tk 200, 300, 500 and 700.

Directed and designed by Nawajesh Ashraf Easad, with dramaturgy by Rizu Luxmy Aboroadh and Easad, "Last Suffer" weaves together Anton Chekhov's ageing character Vasili Svetlovidoff and moments from the life of French playwright and performer Molière. The result, according to Meghagomprio, is less an adaptation and more a philosophical journey into pain, resistance and the longing for freedom.

Breaking away from Chekhov's realism, the production tilts into surreal territory, with Easad describing it as "third-dimensional theatre hinting at a scientific fourth dimension."

The Dhaka run follows a successful premiere in Chittagong on September 22 at the Zia Haider Studio, Chittagong University, where audiences reportedly responded with enthusiasm. Each night in Dhaka, the play will be preceded by live musical jamming and an art exhibition, lending the event a festival-like air.
