Claims series misrepresents anti-drug agencies

Former Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) officer Sameer Wankhede, who was part of the team that arrested Aryan Khan in the 2021 Mumbai drug case, has filed a defamation suit against Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan's Red Chillies Entertainment, along with Netflix and others. The complaint concerns Aryan Khan's debut directorial series "The Ba*ds of Bollywood", which Wankhede claims portrays him in a "false, malicious, and defamatory" manner.

Filed before the Delhi High Court, Wankhede is seeking damages of ₹2 crore, stating that if granted, the money will be donated to Tata Memorial Cancer Hospital. He alleges that the series was deliberately designed to malign his professional and personal image while cases involving him and Aryan Khan are still pending before the Bombay High Court and the NDPS Special Court in Mumbai.

The petition specifically objected to a scene in the first episode, where a narcotics officer raids a Bollywood party and declares "Satyamev Jayate," after which a character makes an obscene gesture. Wankhede argues that this is not only defamatory but also a violation of the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971.

According to Wankhede's statement, the series spreads a misleading image of anti-drug enforcement agencies and could erode public trust in law enforcement institutions. The matter will now be reviewed by the Delhi High Court.
