Shahnawaz Kakoli suffers from stroke, remains hospitalised

Renowned Bangladeshi filmmaker Shahnawaz Kakoli has been admitted to Universal Medical College Hospital in Mohakhali after suffering an ischemic stroke late Sunday night, medical officials confirmed Monday.
The director, who has been managing chronic health conditions including high blood pressure, diabetes, and thyroid disorders, began experiencing severe symptoms Sunday morning. According to sources close to the family, Kakoli was unable to eat and reported numbness in her hands and feet. As her condition deteriorated throughout the day, relatives made the decision to seek emergency medical care on Sunday evening.
Dr. Ashish Kumar Chakraborty, Managing Director and attending physician at Universal Medical College Hospital, confirmed the diagnosis in a statement, "She has had an ischemic stroke. The left side of her body is somewhat paralysed. A CT scan has been done. She is receiving all necessary medical care, including physiotherapy. She will need to remain under medical observation in the coming days."
Her colleagues and admirers have expressed concern on social media. Director Animesh Aich posted on Facebook: "My dear friend, filmmaker Shahnawaz Kakoli, has had a stroke. Devastated! It's heartbreaking!"

Kakoli established herself as one of Bangladesh's most accomplished filmmakers with her 2012 directorial debut "Uttorer Sur" (Northern Symphony). The film screened at prestigious festivals in Goa, Kolkata, and the Third Eye Mumbai Film Festival, and swept three categories at the National Film Awards: Best Film, Best Supporting Actress, and Best Child Artiste.
Her 2015 film, "Nodijon" (The River Woman), continued her trajectory of critically praised work. Beyond feature films, Kakoli has contributed extensively to television drama, screenplay writing, and art direction.
Hospital officials say Kakoli remains under close medical supervision as doctors monitor her recovery progress. No timeline has been provided for her potential discharge.
