Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has backtracked on its recent move to hike the bulk electricity price.

"The current charge will remain unchanged right now," BERC Chairman Abdul Jalil told a virtual press conference today.

Amid a deepening power crisis in the country, the commission has scheduled to announce electricity price hike at wholesale level today.

Based on the Power Development Board's request, a public hearing was held on May 18 at the BIAM Auditorium in which a technical evaluation committee formed by the BERC recommended increasing the bulk price by 58 percent.

Bulk electricity price was increased the last time in February 2020.
