Tribunal concludes hearing after final arguments from both sides

The International Crimes Tribunal-1 will fix the date for delivering its verdict in the crimes against humanity case against deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina and two of her top aides on November 13.

Tribunal Chairman Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mozumder fixed the date after concluding the trial proceedings today.

Earlier in the day, Attorney General Md Asaduzzaman urged the tribunal to hand the highest punishment to Hasina and former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, saying the prosecution had proved the charges beyond doubt.

Chief Prosecutor Tajul Islam also countered the defence arguments, reiterating that "the prosecution had clearly proved the offences committed by the two accused" and demanding the maximum penalty.

Defence counsel Amir Hossain told the court, "I too want justice and I believe my clients will be acquitted if justice is ensued."

Regarding the third accused, former inspector general of police Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun—who became an approver—the attorney general said Mamun had made a "full and true disclosure" and the decision about him is up to the tribunal.
