NCP leader Akhter Hossen under attack in US
National Citizen Party (NCP) Senior Joint Member Secretary Tasnim Jara has said that the party's member secretary Akhtar Hossain came under attack in the US.
In her Facebook post, she said, "After arriving in the United States today, our party's member secretary Akhter Hossen came under attack. Eggs were thrown at him, and he was subjected to abusive language."
Speaking to reporters later at a hotel in New York, Akhter said, "Awami League" activists were resorting to the same intimidation tactics abroad that they practised in Bangladesh.
Pointing to the AL as responsible for the attack, Akhter said, "We are not afraid of this. The people of Bangladesh have shown the highest level of courage against the Awami League, even sacrificing their lives. They will remain united, and the Awami League will not be able to return."
An accompanying video shows Akhter walking away with, what appears to be, egg yolk dripping down his back as others try to shield him from attackers. One attacker is seen hurling another egg at the July uprising leader in the brief video clip.
"This was not an attack on Akhter Hossen as an individual, but rather because of his political identity. He represents the party that is relentlessly working to dismantle fascism," she posted on her page around 5:20am (Bangladesh time) .
This assault clearly demonstrates the extent of fear and frustration among the defeated forces, Jara said.
"I am certain that this attack will not weaken Akhter Hossen in the slightest; instead, it will only strengthen his resolve," she added.
