Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader categorically says that the national council of the party will be held in October this year.

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader today categorically said that the national council of the party will be held in October this year.

“There will be no national council of Awami League before this,” Quader said responding to a query during an inspection of the BRTA mobile court’s operations at Dhaka’s Manik Mia Avenue this morning.

The Awami League re-elected Sheikh Hasina as President while Obaidul Quader as General Secretary during its 20th triennial council on October 22-23, 2016.

In the 20th triennial council, Awami League Presidium Member Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury proposed Hasina’s name as president. Syed Ashraful Islam, who served as general secretary of the party for two terms, proposed the name of Quader as his successor. Both Hasina and Quader were elected unopposed.
