A Dhaka court placed him under one day remand after Moniruzzaman, Lalbagh police Officer-in-Charge, produced him before it.

Metropolitan Magistrate Md Atiqur Rahman passed the order against a seven-day remand plea moved by police. He also rejected a bail petition submitted on behalf of Shawkat.

He was arrested from Dhaka’s Panthapath area on August 18.

On August 24, a Dhaka court placed Shawkat Mahmud on a second phase of remand, this time for four days, over four arson cases.

On August 22, journalist Shawkat was sent to jail on completion of a three-day remand in a case filed over the death of a private car driver in an arson attack in January. The next day, police showed him arrested in the eight cases lodged with Paltan and Motijheel police stations.
