Rapid urbanisation, industrialisation and electrification in rural areas of Bangladesh has led to a boom in the country’s electrical cable industry over the past few years.

Fires not only claim lives but also destroy property worth hundreds of crores each year and according to the Department of Fire Service and Civil Defence, electrical issues were to blame for 36.82 per cent of such incidents across the country last year.

Eastern Cables Limited, a subsidiary of the Bangladesh Steel and Engineering Corporation, was once the only cable manufacturer in Bangladesh.
