BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia is now cleared of all the 37 cases filed during the 2007 caretaker government and the Awami League regime as the court acquitted her in the Niko graft case yesterday.

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia went to the house of her eldest son Tarique Rahman around 9:30pm on Friday (local time) after being discharged from The London Clinic where she was undergoing treatment for 17 days.

Khaleda has been undergoing treatment at the London Clinic since January 8

The Supreme Court yesterday acquitted BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, her son, BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman, and four others of corruption charges in the Zia Orphanage Trust case.

Just six months ago, the tables were completely turned. Khaleda was under house arrest, while her party was desperately appealing for her to be allowed to travel for medical care.

For an outside observer, it must be baffling that the BNP, having witnessed what the actions of the last 15 years did to the Awami League in three short weeks this summer, never even considered the fact that if they didn’t play fast and loose with people’s precious time like Sheikh Hasina used to, it would set a nice contrast in the minds of voters and the young generation.

It had been precisely 2,732 days since BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia met her only surviving son.
