Showers with intense lightning flashes and temporary gusty wind is likely to occur across the country in the next 24 hours as the Cyclonic Storm “Asani” over Southeast Bay and adjoining South Andaman Sea moves Northwestwards.

A mild heat wave is sweeping over the regions of Rajshahi, Pabna, Dinajpur and Jashore and it may continue, said a Met Office bulletin.

Monsoon is active over Bangladesh and the Met office has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in most places in the country and several places in India for the next two days.

The ongoing heat wave which is sweeping across the country shall continue for at least three or four more days, the Met office says.

Rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at one or two places in Dhaka today, the met office says.

Though the biting cold of the last week has subsided, the fog in Dhaka will persist for a few more days, said an official of the Met office.

Midway through the winter, today’s untimely rain may result in temperature drop by 1 to 3 degree centigrade, the Met office has said.

The next two years could be the hottest on record globally, says research from the UK's Met Office.

Barely an hour’s rain brings Dhaka to its knees thanks to the dysfunctional drainage system of the capital city. Majority of the rainfall came around noon, and continued up to 3:00pm.

Heavy rain is likely to continue at most places of the country except Rangpur till Monday evening, according to met officials.
