Micro-finance institutions (MFIs) will have to pay taxes equal to the tax rate of companies if they do not keep the income from service charges of micro-credit operations in a revolving fund, according to the changes in the income tax law passed yesterday by parliament.

The government had suspended activities of 41 non-government organisations operating in the Rohingya camps for their involvement in various “misdeeds”, said Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen yesterday.

The INGO Forum Bangladesh said it would welcome any investigation into the allegations that NGOs and aid agencies spent only a quarter of the funds they received for the Rohingya crisis.

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Law finalises a bill with recommendation to include a provision to take actions against any NGO for making ‘indecent comments’ about different constitutional bodies.
