Television channels pull out all the stops during Eid, offering a colourful blend of dramas, musical shows, film premieres, and special children’s programmes to keep viewers engaged throughout the festivities. As the most widely accessible medium, TV networks curate a vibrant schedule of fiction and entertainment centred around the joy of Eid.

ATN Bangla has announced an eight-day special programming schedule to celebrate Eid-u-Fitr featuring 30 dramas, 8 telefilms, and 15 films. The channel will moreover host the TV premiere of seven Bangladeshi movies as part of the lineup.

This year, an estimated 50 Bangladeshi films have been released. Among these, only a handful have achieved commercial success. Then again, despite not performing well at the box office, other cinematic aspects like actors, actresses, and film songs have managed to remain at the centre of discussions throughout the year.

Star Cineplex, a leading choice for cinema enthusiasts with refined tastes, has maintained its position as a crowd favourite. While Hollywood films dominated the scene a few years ago, the rising wave of Bangladeshi cinema has gradually shifted the spotlight.

A variety of films have graced the silver screen—some commercially successful, others not quite so. Let’s bid adieu to the year, as we look back at some of its film offerings.

The film industry continues to face significant challenges as most cinemas remain closed, and the few that have reopened are struggling due to a lack of new releases. Filmmakers are hesitant to debut their projects in this climate, forcing theatre owners to rely on screening older films. 

Making the announcement Arshad Adnan disclosed that “Shaheb” will be directed by emerging filmmaker Saif Chandan, with Himel Ashraf serving as the film's advisor. The film is slated for release on Eid next year.

The release of “Rajkumar” in Bangladesh has been creating quite a stir, with critics suggesting it ranks amongst Shakib Khan starrer top five films. The film is currently running in theatres across America, alongside Italy, and Australia.

Their journey began with the blockbuster hit "Priyotoma", a film produced under Adnan's Versatile Media banner. Released last year during Eid-ul-Azha, "Priyotoma" not only captured the hearts of audiences but also enjoyed significant commercial success. Following this triumph, the duo presented "Rajkumar" during Eid-ul-Fitr this year, which, although receiving positive reviews, couldn't quite match the commercial prowess of its predecessor.

Following the release of 11 Dhallywood films for and on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, there have been changes in the line-up of movies still screened during the third week. Certain theatres have witnessed a decrease in screenings, while others have seen an increase. Additionally, there's been varied buzz surrounding different films, with some garnering more attention than others.

The first poster of the film “Rajkumar” was unveiled in late March, featuring only Shakib Khan prominently. While the names of the hero, director (Himel Ashraf), and producer (Arshad Adnan) were highlighted in bold letters, the heroine's picture or name was notably absent. Viewers speculated that the hero and heroine might appear together in the next poster, but that didn't materialise either.

Amidst the list of films released on Eid-ul-Fitr, the first to hit international screens is the Himel Ashraf directorial film “Rajkumar”, starring Shakib Khan. Following its domestic reception, the film has been screened in 75 theaters across the United States and Canada since April 19.

This Eid-ul-Fitr, an astounding number of films–totalling 11– were released, offering a wide selection for movie-goers. Amongst them, the Shakib Khan starrer “Rajkumar” is predictably leading in earnings in its first week. Directed by Himel Ashraf, the film premiered in a record-breaking 127 cinemas and has been selling out in all multiplexes since its opening day. It is also performing strongly in single-screen theatres.

Actress Shobnom Bubly has been in the spotlight during the Eid season with her appearances on Nagorik TV. The first episode of the show “Bola Na Bola” was recently broadcast, where she openly shared insights into her personal experiences involving Shakib Khan, Apu Biswas, and their children.

In an effort to promote the movie, Idhika Paul posted a status urging her fans to have faith in “Rajkumar” and to watch the film this Eid.

Star Cineplex plans to showcase a curated selection of eight movies from the lineup.
