Law enforcers have claimed detention of three people, including an alleged official of mobile operator Airtel, on charge of selling SIM cards registered with false information.

State Minister for Posts and Telecommunications Tarana Halim says the government will not extend the deadline for re-registration of SIM cards with biometric data.

It will be tough to complete re-registration of all the SIM cards by April 30, leaders of a fraction of mobile phone top-up and banking vendors association say.

The High Court yesterday questioned the legality of the collection of fingerprints of mobile subscribers for SIM registration, in the wake of widespread criticism of the move and public fear of possible misuse of such personal data.
