Secondary schools to remain open till April 20

The education ministry yesterday decided that all secondary schools and colleges will remain open till April 20.

This means that secondary schools and colleges will be open till the 18th of Ramadan.

Abul Khair, the ministry's public relations officer, confirmed it.

An earlier decision had said they were to remain open till April 26 to recover the learning loss caused by the pandemic-induced school closure, according to an order issued by the Secondary and Higher Education Division on March 28.

A top education ministry official said that the decision to change the date was taken keeping different discussions in mind.

Earlier, the primary and mass education ministry decided that all primary schools and colleges will remain open till the 20th of Ramadan (April 22), with the aim to make up for the pandemic-induced learning loss.

In-person classes in schools resumed in full swing in the middle of March after over 720 days of closure in two phases between March 17, 2020 and March 2022.
