‘Dreams Ascendant’: Saifuddin Ahmed’s enchanting artistry

Abstraction has always been an intriguing medium of expression. In recent years, abstract art has made its way to the general spectators, outside of just artists and patrons. As one of the most popular elements of modern-art, abstraction brings forth unknown and unseen emotions and thought-processes. “Dreams Ascendant”, Saifuddin Ahmed’s first solo exhibition, shows a dominance of this particular style. The inauguration of the exhibition took place at Gallery Shilpangan, Lalmatia on December 4. Artist and cartoonist Shishir Bhattacharjee, and Professor Nisar Hossain, Dean of the Faculty of Fine Art at University of Dhaka were present at the opening ceremony.

'Kromosho': Munem Wasif tells Dhaka's story

On November 10, Project 88 inaugurated Munem Wasif's second solo-exhibition at their gallery in Mumbai, India. The exhibition is titled "Kromosho"--'step by step' in Bengali--and features Wasif's body of work, which the artiste has developed over almost two decades. Munem Wasif’s image-based works often mix photographs with moving images, archive documents or collected paraphernalia to reveal notions of impermanence and insecurity. A major theme throughout his work, is the philosophy of leaving things open to interpretation.

In fond memory of a pioneer in dance, Golam Mostofa Khan

Ekushey Padak-winning choreographer and dance maestro Golam Mostofa Khan died Sunday night at Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka. He was 82 years old. After the country’s independence, he was one of the integral figures in the popularisation of dance as an art form in the region. The cultural personality passed away after suffering from pneumonia and old-age related health problems.
