Commemorating the legacy of thespian Syed Mohidul Islam, a five day-long event "Mohidul Islam Sharan Utsab 2022” is underway at Bangladesh Shipakala Academy from November 4 onwards. This year, the ‘Mohidul Islam Padak’ has been conferred to theatre personality and professor of Dhaka University’s Theatre and Performance Studies department, Dr Israfeel Shaheen.

With the intent of answering the question, 'what defines Bangla Lokonritya?', prominent dance maestros and artistes gathered together at the roundtable discussion titled, “Shekorer Shondhane Bangla Lokonritya”. The event was organised by Nrityanchal and Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on November 2. Hosted by Shamim Ara Nipa and Shibli Mohammad—both of whom are dancers and choreographers in their own right—the event took place at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.

Embroidery is one of the oldest art forms in the history of mankind. The most well-known embroidery of Bangladesh is Nakshi Kantha, done with the threads drawn from saree borders. These used to be cherished gifts in families, the motifs and patterns reflected religious and cultural beliefs, and comprised of flowers, foliage, birds, fish, and animals.

Noted actor and thespian Masum Aziz is has been battling cancer for several years. He was admitted to a hospital in the capital, two days ago. Now, he has been put on life support, as his physical condition deteriorated on Thursday morning.

Renowned artist Samarjit Roy Chowdhury has passed away. He breathed his last in a private hospital in the country’s capital, at 2:40 pm today. The news of his death was confirmed  by the artist’s son, Surajit Chowdhury.
