Prachyanat, one of Bangladesh’s most prominent theatre companies, has announced its new executive committee for the 2025–27 term, signalling continuity of its longstanding commitment to experimental stagecraft, training and international collaboration.

On 3rd October “A Meditation on Peace”, second solo exhibition by Farhana Afroz Bappy, curated by Shehzad Chowdhury was inaugurated at Dwip Gallery, Lalmatia in the presence of Art. Luva Nahid Chowdhury, Director General of Bengal Foundation as the chief guest.

Mogwe concurred and suggested that there should be initiatives implemented to address the collective trauma of society. Farooki responds that the museum will provide trauma response support in the future, including in-person counselling sessions and a hotline number for the families of victims and visitors. The conversation was concluded by Mogwe, who expressed her unwavering support for these initiatives.

Abu Saleh Titu’s fourth solo exhibition will commence from October 9 to 11 at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel.

Yesterday, Gallery Chitrak hosted the fourth solo painting exhibition by acclaimed artist Md Abdul Guffar Babu, titled “Canvas of Tranquility”, which opened at 5:00 pm.

Founded in 1975, Chattogram-based theatre troupe Gonayon Natyosomproday has completed 50 years of its journey. To mark the golden jubilee, the troupe will host a seven-day theatre festival titled Gonayon Natyoutshob, beginning on October 10 at the District Shilpakala Academy in Chattogram.

This year’s festival is part of a broader effort by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs to celebrate major religious and cultural occasions.

The story draws from the Sufi philosopher’s reflections on death, his burial wishes made at the request of Konya’s ruler, Muinuddin Shah Parwana, and the epitaphs written to mourn him.

For the first time, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy is hosting the two-day “Sharadiya Cultural Festival 2025,” which begins today (September 30) and will continue through Wednesday (October 1).

Theatre troupe Charanik presents its fifth production, “Ishwar Tumi Kothay”, written and directed by Jewel Kabir. The one-hour-ten-minute performance, featuring Safia Khandakar Rekha in a stark single-actor role, opens at 7pm on September 26. Organisers note the play has already been staged 14 times at other venues.

The performances that follow will include Shyama Sangeet, devotional songs, patriotic numbers, and contemporary songs. Solo performers scheduled to appear include Anima Rai, Deblina Sur Dola, Rituraj and Sinthi Saha.

Actor-director Sanjoy Sarkar Muktonil, leader of the theatre troupe Batighar, has received this year’s “SM Solaiman Pranodona 2025”, an award established by the Theatre Art Unit to recognize young talents in Bangladeshi theatre.

The Jagannath Hall Union organised a cultural programme to celebrate Mahalaya, the auspicious occasion that marks the arrival of Goddess Durga. Titled “Anandamoyir Agomomone”, the event was held at the Prayer Hall of Jagannath Hall, University of Dhaka. This was the second time such a programme took place, the first having been held shortly after the July Uprising last year.

Solaiman (1953–2001) is widely regarded as a central figure in Bangladesh’s modern theatre movement. Over a career cut short at 48, he wrote, adapted and directed roughly thirty plays and helped institutionalise a blend of folk, musical and political theatre that questioned authoritarianism, social orthodoxy and communal intolerance.

Dhaka’s theatre troupe Anuswar recently brought a fresh dose of satire to the stage with “Buddhijibir Bashay Shoytan”, a seriocomedy directed by veteran theatre activist, playwright, and actor Mohammad Bari.

The appointment was confirmed through a notification issued today, undersigned by Abu Saleh Md Mahfuzul Alam, Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration.
